Dahlonega Gold Museum

HISTORIC DAHLONEGA is the site of the FIRST gold rush in America & home to North Georgia College. The downtown square is on the "National Register" with lovely shops, restaurants and the Dahlonega "Gold Museum". The museum is housed in the old courthouse where this famous quotation was heard..."There's gold in them thar hills". Close to town are authentic mines where you can pan for gold and gems.

Hall's Block in downtown DahlonegaDahlonega -- the name means Gold in Cherokee. Licklog, Dahlonega's first name, was a place deer would come and drink water. Benjamin Parks was hunting deer here in 1828 when he stumbled on the purest vein of gold in the world.

DID YOU KNOW?  Gold on the dome of the State Capitol in Atlanta was mined in Dahlonega?  Applied in very thin layers, more than 80 ounces of 23 karet gold are currently atop the dome.

The vintage HOLLY THEATRE, near the town square, has been restored and now shows first run movies and wonderful plays.

We are in the heart of GEORGIA WINE COUNTRY with 4 vineyards  (Three Sisters Vineyards, Frogtown Cellars, Blackstock Vineyards & Wolf Mountain Vineyards) only minutes from the cabin!  Indulge yourself in wine tasting, dining and "wine festivals" during the year at these vineyards.
